first_img COMMENT LIVE TV Associated Press Television News First Published: 27th December, 2019 11:31 IST Written By Kenny Pickett threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Taysir Mack with 47 seconds left and Pittsburgh held on to beat Eastern Michigan 34-30 in the Quick Lane Bowl on Thursday night. After taking its first lead of the game, Pittsburgh (8-5) then forced Eastern Michigan (6-7) to turn it over on downs from its 40. That sealed Pitt’s first bowl victory in five appearances under coach Pat Narduzzi. The Eagles came up just short in a closely contested game just as they did in three previous bowls under coach Chris Creighton.Eastern Michigan quarterback Mike Glass was ejected with 10 seconds left after throwing punches at two players. Eagles cornerback Kevin McGill was ejected earlier for unsportsmanlike conduct.Glass was 28 of 50 for 311 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The senior also ran for 83 yards and a score.Pickett completed 27 of 39 passes for 361 yards and three scores, including a school-record, 96-yard TD pass to Maurice Ffrench. Ffrench finished with 12 catches for 165 yards, most of which came on the tying score in the second quarter.RECORD BOOKSFfrench had 96 receptions this season, breaking Larry Fitzgerald’s school record of 92 set in 2003.Glass surpassed Charlie Batch’s single-season record of 3,390 yards of total offense set in 1997.THE TAKEAWAYPitt: Coaching continuity with offensive coordinator Mark Whipple returning for a second season should help the program. The offense showed some signs of life in the bowl game after scoring 20 or fewer points in eight games this season.Eastern Michigan: The program is on solid footing, earning consecutive bowl bids for the first time and three in four years after previously doing it only once as a Division I team. The Eagles will just have to hope they can keep coach Chris Creighton away from Power Five conference schools.UP NEXTPitt: Hosts Miami of Ohio on Sept. 5. The Panthers will have a chance to be very good on defense if defensive lineman Jaylen Twyman, Patrick Jones and safety Paris Ford all choose to stay in college instead of entering the NFL draft.Eastern Michigan: Plays at Kentucky on Sept. 5. The Eagles will be breaking in a new quarterback, attempting to replace Glass. Preston Hutchinson and Jairus Grissom gained some experience in 2019 and will likely have a shot to start next season.___center_img Last Updated: 27th December, 2019 11:31 IST Pitt Rallies To Beat Eastern Michigan In Quick Lane Bowl Kenny Pickett threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Taysir Mack with 47 seconds left and Pittsburgh held on to beat Eastern Michigan 34-30 in the Quick Lane Bowl on Thursday night. SA to build more science centres

first_img“We also value the role that science centres play in teacher empowerment and in training mathematics, science and technology teachers on the best ways to bring their subjects to life in the classroom. South Africa plans to increase the number of science centres in the country in order to help young people realise their full potential, Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor told the 6th Science Centre World Congress in Cape Town this week. “We are convinced that science centres are one of the most effective means available to help our youth reach their full potential in an informal learning environment,” she told delegates at the start of the 6th Science Centre World Congress at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Key areas of public investment Source: BuaNews The well-attended conference is being held under the theme “Science Across Cultures”. Set to run for the next four days, the summit will have many exhibitions and is bound to be propelled by robust debate and discussions. The Department of Science and Technology had created the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA) to implement the policies of the department, and to carry out science awareness programmes of their own. She said the centres would be capable of developing “effective” outreach programmes, aimed at peri-urban and rural areas where they could offer “valuable services”. At the moment, South Africa has 26 science centres in eight provinces. Pandor said that there were five key areas of public investment in sciences in South Africa, including investments in space science and technology, biotechnology, building indigenous knowledge, and technology associated with climate change. 6 September 2011 “There is no doubt that a network of science centres would unleash the potential of millions of young African people, and promote science awareness on a continent that is rapidly embracing the digital age. She highlighted that South Africa was ready to share with other African governments and non-profit organisations “the experience that we have gained in putting together and implementing policies that promote science centre development in our region.” “Science centres can also play a major role in encouraging the youth to follow careers in science and technology, and to know which career path would suit them best,” she said.last_img read more

Plenty of replanting Between the Rows

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Glen NewcomerTo say that we were busy the last two weeks would be an understatement. There was an unprecedented amount of replanting that occurred here in northwest Ohio this past week. It is not just in Ohio, it’s throughout the Midwest. It is widespread throughout Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa.Everything planted in mid-May was crusted in and a very high percentage of it had to be replanted. On our farm we ended up replanting 20% of our corn and 60% of our soybeans. I’ve never experienced anything like that in my entire farming career. It was very prevalent throughout the whole northwest corner of Ohio. It didn’t matter what the soil type was, or how it was planted, the crusted ground did not allow for emergence in some fields. The seed germinated but it simply could not push through the crust that developed. In counties directly south, it was very common for people making their third attempt at planting. Conditions were such that it was pretty obvious that the crop was not going to emerge and we took immediate action to get the crop established. Soil crusting was the predominant issue in our area, yet very little disease was seen in the emerging plants. As far as insect pressure, there was a little bit of army worm damage in the counties south of us but we didn’t see any in our immediate area. We had many fields where it was a simple decision that the entire field had to be replanted. We addressed those fields first. We also spotted in some fields to add to the stand. I am a firm believer that you have to have a population in place to achieve a desirable yield. We don’t mess around when it comes to replanting. It is too early in the game to be less than satisfied with the emerged stand population. We finished replanting on June 8. It went in great and from what I scouted today, it all appears to have germinated and most of it has emerged as a result of the warm soil temperatures. Many people are sidedressing corn but we stopped because of the dry conditions. With showers in the forecast, we will be at it again next week.Frustration with the weather is one of the things we have to deal with quite often in agriculture. In the middle of May when we finished planting I was on top of the world thinking we had hit a home run. As it turned out we definitely hit a foul ball, but we will step back up to the plate, persevere and overcome. For the rest of this week’s reports, click here.last_img read more

RIM Agrees to Indonesian Government’s Demands to Filter BlackBerry Users’ Internet Access

first_imgBlackBerry maker RIM has agreed to the Indonesian government’s demands to implement pornography filters for the country’s 2 million BlackBerry users. According to a statement from the company RIM is seeking a “prompt, compliant filtering solution.” The Indonesian government gave RIM until January 21 to begin filtering porn sites or face being shut down in the country.RIM has faced these sorts of threats from other governments for failing to censor online content, most notably last year when both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were poised to ban the devices for non-compliance with the countries’ telecommunications rules. But this is the first time that RIM has publically agreed to filter Internet content on its phones. However it’s unlikely to be the last time that it will face these sorts of demands, particularly as RIM expands into countries where there are heavy restrictions on porn and other “objectionable” content. “This isn’t just Indonesia,” Heru Sutadi, a member of the Indonesian Telecommunications Regulatory Body, which oversees the industry, told Bloomberg. “Middle Eastern countries are also being hard on RIM. By looking at the big Indonesia market, I’m sure RIM will obey.”According to Bloomberg, the filtering in Indonesia may include a complete blocking of the BlackBerry’s web browsing capabilities. While RIM has said it will offer an Internet filter in Indonesia, it has complied with several other of the government’s requests, building a server in Indonesia so authorities can “conduct investigations against perpetrators of crime.” What it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech … Related Posts Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement The Rise and Rise of Mobile Payment Technologycenter_img audrey watters Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces Tags:#mobile#NYT#web last_img read more

Swachh Saathis to be deployed

first_imgThe Odisha government has mooted deploying ‘Swachh Saathis’, ground-level workers, who would act as agents to bring about collective behavioural changes at the household level regarding waste collection. They would raise awareness on collection of segregated waste to ensure decentralising of wet waste and collection of dry waste.Swachh Saathis, who will be nominated by women self-help groups of the locality, must not have educational qualification below Class XII. In the event of unavailability of suitable candidates, the SHG can make relaxation in the criterion.Apart from demonstrating segregation of waste, the Swachh Saathis will also explain method of composting, preferably micro composting, in the locality.Incentive suggested The government has suggested that an incentive of ₹4,000 per month should be paid to Swachh Saathis for every 600 households.“The incentive will be given directly to the women self-help group and not to the Swachh Saathis. The groups are, however, free to use one or more members for performing the assigned responsibilities,” said a senior officer. The State government is now emphasising on collection of basic statistics on the map of urban local bodies with ward boundary, roads, parks, bulk waste generators, commercial areas and other land masses. Besides, demographic details will be collected. It will help authorities quantify waste generation. “This will enable us to put a dynamic solid waste management system in place,” he said.last_img read more

Bishop says peace prosperity is everybodys responsibility at Law Enforcers Church Service

first_imgFacebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp Recommended for you Beaches puts former Premier on blast about controversial pier Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppProvidenciales, 15 Feb 2016 – The entire country was challenged to take responsibility for the peace and prosperity of the Turks and Caicos when Police and other Law Enforcers gathered for their annual church service at Abundant Life Ministries International. Two church services were held to officially start the year in prayer for the various forces including Police, Immigration, Customs, Environmental Health, Fire Department, Airports Authority Security, Prison Service and Road Traffic in both Grand Turk and Providenciales. The key message came from Bishop C. Alexander Williams who called on hearers to be honest and pay their taxes and dues to country… called on expat officers and residents to love this country where they are blessed to live their lives… called on the Police to restore true community policing and to exercise greater compassion… called on government to more highly consider the Belonger worker and to promote and pay them well… there was a challenge to introduce new, tougher laws and to make greater efforts to assimilate cultures and all were called to remember that there was a time in the TCI, when God was not left out. The service featured worship performances by the Abundant Life praise team, brass band music by the Royal Turks and Caicos Police Band and remarks from Deputy Police Commissioner, Rodney Adams; Opposition Leader, Sharlene Robinson and Premier, Rufus Ewing. The theme for the service was Serving God and Country. Related Items:aundant life ministries, bishop alexander C.
